Dunk offer was accepted in January

According to reports Brighton had surprusingly given permission for club legend Lewis Dunk to discuss a move to Nottingham Forest. Reports started coming out Monday afternoon leaving Albion fans totally bemused and some angry with the direction of the club. Lewis Dunk is not only a club stalwart and captain of the club, but he has also  featured in near enough every Brighton league game this season. So why did Brighton accept the offer from Nottingham Forest?

As more information has emerged it appears the club took a holistic approach to the offer and allowed the Brighton legend to make his own decision. It is believed given the fantastic commitment Dunk has shown the club those high up at Brighton felt obligated to at least propose the deal to the player with the club respecting whatever the player wished to do. Thankfully for Brighton Dunk rebuffed the offer and Brighton informed Forest that their captain was staying.

The fact that Brighton offered this opportunity to Dunk has led me to question their motives however. On the one hand I can understand the want to do right by their longstanding captain but the cynic in my feels there is more to this than meets the eye. With Dunk performing at such a high level I would suggest it wasn't performance based but instead could it be perhaps suggest further signs of trouble in the camp?

Dunk had just triggered an extension keeping him contracted to Brighton until 2027. With Brighton seemingly open to offers for their captain it's going to be interesting to see how this plays out over the summer. It's certainly one to keep an eye on.
