Brighton suffer defeat to rivals in another limp performance

Brighton fans where once again left frustrated as Brighton fail to beat Crystal Palace.

Coming into the game both teams where struggling for form, Brighton had won just one game in their last 11 games and Palace had not won in the league since November. So this was seen as a big opportunity for both sides to give everyone connected to their clubs a real boost.

The first half started in a cagey fashion and chances were at a premium. Brighton perhaps started the more brightly with their captain Lewis Dunk heading over the bar from an early free kick but in truth both genuine openings and quality were lacking. The best chance of the half fell to Maxim De Cruype, the full back found the ball arrive to him just inside the box but unfortunately for the Belgian international his shot was hit straight at a Palace defender.

The stale mate continued into the second half. That was until the hour mark. A lofted ball forward from Adam Wharton was headed into the midfield by Dunk. The Brighton captains header was misdirected and was picked up by the newly subsisted Guessand who drove forwards into the space that had been vacated by Boscagli. Ferdi tried to atone for the error by foolishly jumping across to pressure the palace forward but in doing so left a huge gap for Sarr to exploit. The ball was then played to Sarr and he slotted past the on rushing Verburggen.

Brighton tried to change the momentum of the game by introducing Wellbeck, Gomez & Minteh just after the 70 minute mark but these changes made little impact for the home side. Instead it was Palace who continued to look the more threatening with the newly signed Strand Larsson being denied a debut goal late on by Brightons no 1.

The final whistle was greeted by loud boos and cries of "you don't know what you're doing!" from the Brighton Faithful. A largely frustrating day but one that is sadly not too unfamiliar for seagull fans.
