The future of Fabian Hurzeler is once again under the spotlight

what you'd initially expect. With Brighton winning just 1 league game from their last 13 attempts, it would be fair to suggest that the Brighton board could be getting itchy fingers when it comes to the future of their German coach.

But according to the sources credited in the Daily Telegraph article, it actually appears Hürzeler himself may seek to find a new home. The piece goes on to say that the young German coach is highly thought of both domestically and around Europe, with many teams keen to take the German should he be willing. These teams feel the main reason for Brighton's recent struggles is not down to coaching but instead actually due to poor recent recruitment, with Hurzeler being left with an unbalanced squad which has ultimately dealt him a bad hand.

Whether you feel that is a fair assessment or not, I do feel it raises concerns with Brighton's once successful model. As previous incumbent Roberto De Zerbi found out, Brighton are totally married to their data-driven approach and will shunt any player recommendations if the numbers do not align.

Given that Brighton have recently parted company with longstanding technical director David Weir, it appears the Seagulls are only too aware of their recent shortcomings. After all, it was David Weir who oversaw the recruitment for the past few seasons, with the general consensus being that the players signed to replace those who had departed have not been at the required level.

Nevertheless, it adds a new layer of intrigue to the future of Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler. Whilst I don’t foresee a change forthcoming anytime soon, I do feel that in the summer a change is increasingly looking more likely.

Whether that decision will be of the coach or Tony Bloom remains to be seen!
